Hallmark, Direct Energy and Lennox Team Up To Help Injured Veterans
On January 23, 2010, Hallmark, Direct Energy and Lennox teamed up with Homes for Our Troops to help build a new home for wounded Navy Petty Officer Anthony Thompson.
Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit organization committed to building specially adapted homes for returning wounded war veterans at no cost to them allowing them to live independently.
In 2007 Thompson was on his second deployment to Iraq when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive under an overpass where Thompson and his unit were on post. As a result of his injuries Thompson suffered injuries to his brain, lungs and spinal cord leaving him unable to care for himself.
Hallmark and Direct Energy employees worked hand-in-hand to install all the heating and air conditioning ductwork in Thompson’s soon-to-be new home with new materials donated by Lennox.
“Homes for Our Troops does an amazing job of ensuring our wounded veterans are not only remembered, but also given special care to make their lives more comfortable,” said Bill Fortner, Vice President of Hallmark, a division of Direct Energy. “Taking part in the building of this home is an honor and we couldn’t have done the HVAC work without the help of Direct Energy and the generous donation of materials from our partner, Lennox.”
Thompson currently remains in a special facility with the hopes of returning home soon to his family – and to a new home that is being provided by Homes for Our Troops and their volunteers and partners such as Hallmark, Direct Energy and Lennox.
